COMMUNICATION IN THE SERVICE OF PEACE

The Mediterranean Edition invites the submission of essays and research reports that focus on Communication in the Service of Peace for the Spring 2007 issue. We are particularly interested in 1) articles that explore the structural, social, cultural, institutional, or political economic barriers to a democratization of the media and the promotion of communication for peace, and 2) articles that provide examples of how we might theorize and/practice a peace-oriented media of inclusion. Example topics include:

  • Media and Conflict

  • Children and Media

  • Peace Journalism

  • Peace Communication

  • Women and Media

  • Political economy of communication and peace

  • Film and Peace

  • Media and Nationalisms

  • Documentary and Peace

  • Peace Pedagogies for Communication and Media Studies

  • Media, Citizenship and Democracy

  • Communication and Cultures in Conflict

  • Theories of Communication, Theories of Peace

  • Media, Globalization and Peace Communication

  • Communication, Diaspora and Border Crossing

  • War-riting for Peace

  • Peace Radio

  • Communication and Peace Studies

  • Media and Conflict Resolution

The Editor seeks articles for both the general and graduate student sections of the Spring 2007 issue from scholars/researchers engaged in questions concerning the relationship between media and the promotion of peace. Of special interest will be articles that breach the apparent boundaries between disciplinary areas and suggest new approaches to historical problems of representation, ownership and control, access, intellectual and press freedoms, communication rights, and the fundamental role of communication in democratic society.
